for the lost

Fellow Canuck, Colin de la Plante aka 'the mole', aka 'the mole of soul', was raised in Montreal but currently resides in berlin, where he dj's and produces on the disco side of things.
his original productions are sample-heavy, emotional and repetitive, but in a way that captures (not looses) your/my attention. melodic house-ish tracks with deep soul roots.
here's one of my personal favourites:

'For the Lost', it turns out featured prominently in a snippet of a 2007 set of his that to this day I play often and drool over... (sometimes i even slip the set into my sets for a bathroom break)

Since his hugely successful LP, 'High as the Sky' he has put out 2 new EP's: Dreamer Keep on Dreaming and Nervous Disid /Secret Mummy.
his dj sets are awesome, soulful and eclectic; more uptempo and coherent than his mixes, but still a similar vibe. here is a super fresh mix (not set) he just did for Drunkpers in Trouw Amsterdam, to promote a show he did there last weekend with Cobblestone Jazz. But he is also a super nice guy: check out an interview he did with RA 2 years ago here and an 'under the gun' feature he did with RA here... and let me know if you want the accompanying leftfield RA podcast and i will upload it..

Check out his myspace here and keep an eye out for his live shows here.

...out of sheer completeness or just plain thoroughness, let me introduce you to 19 year old nicolas jaar - that is, if you havent already met.
'time for us' is what i consider a perfect song. and i love the curve ball finale.
really looking forward to his upcoming debut LP, 'tre' - due sometime this year...

kindness

i have been BIG into this song since i first heard this muffled out version of it almost a year ago.

Swinging Party from Kindness on Vimeo.

then it was a while until i found a more polished version in the (less-than-average) Moshi Moshi Electro compilation vol 2 on itunes.
(the fader is hosting a low-quality rip if you cant afford the 99 cents, but i bet you can and its well worth it.. anyway : swinging party )

'Gabriel' is a darker track with the same folk feel, but with a slow burning, almost 80's pop beat. American Psycho outtake soundtrack material. oder? pitchfork has it up for you. been playing it alot.
gabriel on pitchfork

and this pajama-jammer appears to be their 'new hit single'. dynamite video! and an all-right jam.

James Murphy, DFA Records boss, is LCD Soundsystem, and his new album, This is Happening is finally out. And its fucking great!
I saw them in Berlin on May 6 and was blown away. It was mostly reworked and extended old tracks with a few (4?) new ones here and there. I highly recommend both the album and the live show.
Check the LCD site for tour dates

...and here's a hot b-side-ish track from the 2006 Introns album: Slowdive (xfm session)
