'Nikita Quasim started making music on the day of her mother’s 40th birthday. She was only 11 years old. Not knowing what to give her, she recorded the sound of her laundry machine with imovie, unable to find any other program that could layer sounds. She ended up creating a dense 10 minute weaving of household chaos. Of Russian and Afghan descent came this Cagian prodigy, who is now only 19 years old and ‘Inés’ is her voyage of discovery.

Soul Keita is only 17 years old and resides in his hometown of Addis Ababa. This Ethiopian national considers Mulatu Astatke his spiritual father. He works solely with a dusty 808 and traditional Ethiopian instruments in order to create melancholic folk house.' (quoted from here)

Here is a nice podcast mix from Nikita Quasi.

the time and space machine

This is the follow up to the recent Wizard's Sleeve post and yet another installment in the psychedelic folk pop series.
Since I guess a couple years ago Richard Norris of Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve teamed up with graphic designer Luke Insect to start a project called The Time and Space Machine a project dedicated to mixing Psychedelic and Electronic music and spaced out visuals.

Meet Richard and Luke.

In 1988 Richard released one of the first acid house and sample-based albums, 'Jack The Tab' in spring ’88. Then he formed a band with ex- Soft Cell member David Ball called the Grid. I had never heard of the Grid before so I checked them out on youtube. Wow. Kinda psychedelic too. You may have heard some of these Grid songs at some point along the way.

Flotation

The Grid - Intergalactica (1990, Electric Head)

A Beat Called Love
Crystal Clear '95
Swamp Thing '93 became a big hit within the line dancing community.
Texas Cowboys before and after it got huge.

Like Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve, The Time and Space Machine gets its main musical inspiration from the psychedelic era of 1967, however the T+SM seem to incorporate more balearic, acid and experimental styles. T+SM have unofficially(?) released two Volumes of original work, and officially released one album of originals on Tirk Records and one compilation of remixes on Nang Records. Last year Richard mixed a soundtrack for a 2006 book called Moondust. In the book journalist Andrew Smith interviews men who have walked on the moon and the subjective experiences they had there.
Richard plans to continue dj'ing, make more songs with The Grid and work with film maker Kieran Evans on what we must guess is a soundtrack to something.

Anyway, here are a bunch of Time and Space Machine remixes that have been doing it for me... and a couple originals too. Enjoy.

the wizards' sleeves

Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve
are Erol Alkan and Richard Norris. Alkan, I've mentioned before, is mostly an electro guy while Norris seems to be more eclectic in his taste and productions. BTWS specialize in editing mostly obscure and rare psychedelic rock or left-field disco tracks in ways that make them more obscure, aged and psychedelic. They put out 4 limited pressing vinyl EP's of 'original work' in between 2005 - 2008 on 3rd Mynd, all of which have been deleted and replaced with a 14 track LP called Ark 1 (by 'original work' I mean that BTWS is the artist, legitimate or not). They have also been commissioned to remix (or 're-animate' as they call it) artists like the Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand, and Peter Bjorn and John and have released a cd of BTWS Re-Animations. I will put up a few originals and some re-animations so you can see what you'd get if you hit the fs buttons below. For the record I am posting these guys now because I have a hunch that there will some new BTWS stuff coming out soon, so when I post it you will have the background. Also you will have the background for the BTWS side project that I put up next.

Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve - Bubble Burst

Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve - Sunday Morning Sun-g

Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve - Get Ready to Fly

Other top originals (which I can't even find to embed) are Electric Bananas, Light Years, I Swim Around, Red Tuesday, and You Can Talk to Me.

REMIXES

Midlake - Roscoe (Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve Re-animation)

Goldfrapp - Happiness (Beyond The Wizards Sleeve Re-animation)

BTWS re-animated this one too, but good luck finding the mp3. They decided not to include it on their re-animations cd when Arthur Lee (one of Hendrix' favorite musicians) passed away. Maybe I will have to upload it myself.
Love - A House is not a Motel

BTWS - Live at the Zodiac (2008) (Right click save as here)

BTWS - Live at XFM 2009 (Right click and save here)

Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve - Ark 1 (fs)

Beyond the Wizards Sleeve - Re-Animations Vol. 1

Weak Bonus:
An Erol Alkan mix that sounds more like BTWS than anything he has done under his own name.
Spacemen 3 - Big City (Erol Alkan Mix)
